When Liberty Dies in the Heart

The Supreme Court might be right in refusing to hear Guantanamo cases which leave detainees without any right to challenge the legality of their detention.  After all, we are a republic and it was our elected representatives who recently voted to limit individual human rights in favor of government power.

What the Supreme Court is saying is, "The people have spoken."

“Liberty lies in the hearts and minds of men and women;
when it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it;
no constitution, no law, no court can even do much to help it… ”

                                                      —Judge Learned Hand
