While reading commentary and watching news about a possible pending war with Iran, I came upon this video.
It become obvious to me that the images we usually get about Iran are so far from the larger reality. What a foolish tragedy it would be to make enemies of the people who are, in many ways, so much like us; like we were, as we moved towards greater freedom of expression. I remember when I was a child: the social roles between men and women were much more strict than they are now, the latest fashions evolved until it is nearly impossible in America to dress yourself in a way that will evoke hostility from the people around you. Over the next generation or two, Iran will evolve too... if we allow them to without introducting our terror to their streets. This is not what the film talks about but it is part of what I took away from it. Iran, of course, has their problems and perhaps they could be a threat if we don't know how to respond... but war is not a solution.
