Nice words, but not what I wanted to hear

In the last 6 years, the current occupants in the White House have committed impeachable acts that have denigrated the Constitution and the rule of law. Everyone knows this apparently except for elected officials who haven't had the courage to say so. How can any elected official claim to be worthy of public service if they have already demonstrated an unwillingness to stand alone if need be to tell the truth and fight for our democracy.

Are we going to have a candidate for President of the United States who will stand up and defend the Constitution? Are we going to seek justice and remove criminals from public office who betray their oath of office?

Are we going to roll back those elements of the Patriot Act that threaten our civil rights? Are we going to repudiate the idea that torture is an acceptable mode of behavior by Americans or by anyone?

Are we going to accept the loss of basic principles of law that have been a part of Western civilization for hundreds of years?

Are we going to keep our promise to ourselves and the rest of the world and ratify the Universal Declaration of Human Rights?

I say before we make any new promises that we endeavor to restore the promises that were already won by our founding fathers and for which so many already gave their blood that we might have them?
